2013 – The Year for a Happy Soul

For me, the first couple months of this new year are completely devoted to writing a new bible study for LifeWay. The title is STRONGER, Finding Hope in Fragile Places. God willing, we will film the teaching videos in a few weeks, I’ll finish the content of the member book and the study will release in June.

I’ve been delayed simply because the past six months have been so taken with my family, mama’s sickness and her home-going. But these new days are sweet days of study for me.

I ran across this quote from George Mueller today and wanted to share it with you. It’s truth is relevant for us all.

May this be the year the bible comes alive to you. May your soul be happy in God.

With grateful love, Angela

blockquote>We have, through the goodness of the Lord, been permitted to enter upon another year—and the minds of many among us will no doubt be occupied with plans for the future, and the various fears of our work and service for the Lord. If our lives are spared we shall be engaged in those: the welfare of our families, the prosperity of our business, our work and service for Christ may be considered the most important matters to be attended to; but according to my judgement the most important point to be attended to is this: above all things see to it that your souls are happy in the Lord. Other things may press upon you, the Lord’s work may even have urgent claims upon your attention, but I deliberately repeat, it is of supreme and paramount importance that you should seek above all things to have your souls truly happy in God Himself! Day by day seek to make this the most important business of your life. This has been my firm and settled condition for the last five and thirty years. For the first four years after my conversion I knew not its vast importance, but now after much experience I specially commend this point to the notice of my younger brethren and sisters in Christ: the secret of all true effectual service is joy in God, having experimental acquaintance and fellowship with God Himself.

But in what way shall we attain to this settled happiness of soul? How shall we learn to enjoy God? How shall we obtain such an all-sufficient soul-satisfying portion in him as shall enable us to let go the things of this world as vain and worthless in comparison? I answer, This happiness is to be obtained through the study of the Holy Scriptures. God has therein revealed Himself unto us in the face of Jesus Christ.

In the Scriptures, by the power of the Holy Ghost, He makes Himself known unto our souls. . . .

[Therefore] The very earliest portion of the day we can command should be devoted to the meditation on Scriptures. Our souls should feed upon the Word. . . . This intimate experimental acquaintance with Him will make us truly happy. Nothing else will. . . . In God our Father, and the blessed Jesus, our souls have a rich, divine, imperishable, eternal treasure. Let us enter into practical possession of these true riches; yea, let the remaining days of our earthily pilgrimage be spent in an ever increasing, devoted, earnest consecration of our souls to God.

Hey Darling girl! I’ve missed seeing your face in my life. Seems we’ve not run across one another. But you’ve been on my heart and in my prayers. Love you much and praying as you write.

I am at awe at what you wrote today and the confirmation I am feeling in my heart. I can’t wait for your new study. The title is perfect for the beginnings of strength that I am beginning to feel from such brokenness in my life. I felt like the Lord was impressing me to study hope in him in the Bible this year. So yes! I am so glad God is allowing you to write this book.
I have read your books for years and it has been such an encouragement to me that God uses broken women, who are single moms(yea! for your marriage), divorced, etc for his glory. Recovery from falling on my face so many times has been hard, but God’s love and grace is good.
Thank you for loving God enough to follow him and being honest to share your journey for those of us in similar circumstances. Your love for Jesus, your family, God’s word is inspirational.

I hope to see you in North Carolina in May, 2013.

I hope this box allows me to type all I want to type! I attended Ewomen 2012 in Roanoke. God worked in you to affirm that I needed to “run my race” and I am! I am going to Liberty for my Master of Arts in Marriage & Family Counseling. I am reading Brave questions women ask. My marriage is awesome, my children are thriving, and I am following God and because of this my husband has been in agreement with my choices. I am seeing my prayers be answered by God every day, literally, and it is so exciting and humbling! I listened/watched when you lead convocation at Liberty and spoke about Hagar and how you too are broken. I am in prayer that you will come and speak in 2013 because I will be there, your biggest fan screamin for you! You have made me feel and be totally okay with accepting that, I too, am broken; and it’s okay! I am coming to see you in North Carolina! I love what you are teaching me, I consider you a mentor, and at Ewomen when you signed my book you hugged me, you probably don’t remember me, I know you hug lots of ladies, but when our eyes met before you hugged me, the holy spirit was just so present. I knew what you said that day was a life changing and defining moment for me and I think you could tell that too, and we hugged. I am so grateful that you are so transparent and open. I only hope God will use me in the same big ways he is using you. Thank you for teaching me how to be a great Jesus girl and I am so looking forward to seeing you in North Carolina in May!!
    God Bless!!

Wow…Angela, I adore these words from Mueller. How perfect for us to reflect on these truths as we get ready for the new year. Thank you so much for sharing them! I may have to share them, too…they are beautiful!
